Only half an hour out of Raglan the Te Toto gorge offers stunning views, coastal air, and even some exercise. The Te Toto Gorge meaning "The Blood" is a huge semicircular cliff carved out by the thrashing of the waves. The reason it is called "The Blood" Gorge is that the Maori people used to throw captured soldiers from the cliff edge to dispose of them. Other than the grim name it is a beautiful spot. With superb views of the water and bush and a 2-hour track to the summit, the Te Toto Gorge is the perfect place to visit if you're holidaying in Raglan.
