The Te Toto Gorge meaning "The Blood" is a huge semicircular cliff carved out by the thrashing of the waves. The reason it is called "The Blood" Gorge is that the Maori people used to throw captured soldiers from the cliff edge to dispose of them. Other than the grim name it is a beautiful spot.
